An exceptional quality of LIFE…
Quality of life is a priority for Metz Métropole. “In 2009, Metz, a city at the centre of its territory, was named by the New York Times as one of the ‘44 places to go’ in the world.
The territory has many infrastructures and facilities dedicated to culture and sport to meet the needs of its inhabitants (L’Opéra Théâtre, L’Arsenal, Palais Omnisports Les Arènes, Saint-Symphorien stadium, etc.). Metz is well known for its shopping facilities and its pedestrian area in the city centre. Several parks, gardens and green areas make life in the city centre very agreeable. The 40 municipalities in the built-up area all offer particularly good living standards.
Centre Pompidou-Metz, a leading example of cultural decentralisation in France, has exhibitions of a quality never previously seen in Metz. This ambitious cultural project, the work of Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines, an architectural feat, has already welcomed over 35,000 visitors since it opened to the public on 12th May 2010. A major success !
Metz Métropole benefits from the advantages of a great metropolis while retaining a special setting. The 40 municipalities in the built-up area reflect a precious historic past and are home to a wide range of touristic, cultural and architectural treasures.
A pioneer in the field of urban ecology, it encourages environmentally friendly modes of transport, along the banks of the Moselle and at the heart of its many parks and gardens. The METTIS dedicated right-of-way public transport project is due to be implemented in 2013…
Living in Metz Métropole also means sharing in exciting events: La Nuit Blanche, the Moselle Open, the Metz marathon, the summer book festival, the Mirabelle (golden plum) festival, Metz beach, the Christmas market …
… and many other family-friendly events.

Opportunities for a career in a multicultural region…
Against a rich multicultural background, Metz Métropole offers exceptional career opportunities combining quality of life and a dense economic environment, with a strong tradition of industrial excellence that is also oriented towards innovation.
Metz Métropole has developed recognized expertise focused on its three main cutting edge fields (materials, health and the environment):
- The materials sector is based above all on expertise in metallurgy and metallography, the heritage of the Lorraine region’s past in the iron and steel industry, as well as a high performance enterprise network (MITTAL, PSA, THYSEN KRUPP, LBI), Grandes Écoles of international reputation (Georgia Tech Lorraine, ENSAM, SUPELEC, ENIM) and high level research laboratories,
- The health sector is expanding alongside the creation of the Mercy Health and Innovation hub. “Independent living for people suffering from a disability or dependency” is the driving theme behind this cluster creation,
- A traditional laboratory of urban ecology, Metz is still a pioneer in the subject and has developed recognized expertise in terms of eco-construction and management of fossil fuel energies,
Establishment in the future Parc du Technopôle of cutting edge technological companies dedicated to the environment sector, and the Marly-Frescaty Airbase 128 conversion project, known as “EcoCité 128”, reinforce this progress in terms of urban projects based on sustainable development.
The built-up area offers students an excellent standard of higher education and reinforces its cross-border vocation via degree courses reserved for foreign students from four continents. It also offers standards of excellence in teaching, with three university campuses and eight exceptional Grandes Écoles ( ENIM, ESAM, Arts et Métiers Paristech, ESIDEC, ESITC, Georgia Tech-Lorraine, IRA and SUPELEC).
